Dawn Akerley

Dawn Akerley’s journey in aquatic education began in the Forest Hills community, propelled by a parent’s recommendation. During the pandemic, she expanded her role at Commonpoint, leading recreational athletic classes in emergency childcare centers. With a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, Dawn transitioned into an administrative role within the aquatics department at Central Queens in 2021, swiftly rising to become the Aquatics Director. She is fervently dedicated to drowning prevention, ensuring swimming lessons are accessible to children of all abilities. Dawn’s passion extends beyond the pool; she actively supports special needs education and enrichment in Queens, enjoys family time, supports the Yankees and Knicks, and volunteers with special needs children. Her commitment to fostering confidence through sports drives her mission to see every child thrive.
