Commonpoint Healthy Meals Project

In an effort to promote nutritional wellness, Commonpoint is helping families gain knowledge on nutrition and healthy eating through the Healthy Meals Partnership. They are engaging with families in Richmond Hill, South Ozone Park, Queens Village, Jamaica, South Jamaica, Hollis, St. Albans, Rochdale, and Springfield through their neighborhood partnerships and nutrition and culinary workshops.
In these community-led workshops, residents gather to learn, teach and connect with the topic of nutritious meals. Facilitators offer information on nutritional value of cultural foods, helping residents make informed decisions on how to balance their diet. The Healthy Meals project partners with local food pantries, grocery stores and restaurants, providing incentives for families to shop in their neighborhood while making healthier food choices.
The Healthy Meals Partnership is not just about their workshops but the community coming together to build a healthier future. This project was funded by New York City’s participatory budgeting process, the People’s Money, in partnership with the New York City Civic Engagement Commission.
