Community School Director, Martin Van Buren High School

Samentha Jean-Charles is a graduate of New York University, holding a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling with a concentration in Wellness. She has been working in the field since 2013, specializing in community building, strategic career planning, cognitive thinking and behaviors, group and family dynamics, relationships, personality traits, and trauma.

Samentha has been recognized for her outstanding work as a Job Placement Specialist in the City of New York, having been featured in the NYC Employment & Training Coalition’s (NYCETC) newsletter. Currently, she serves as the Community School Director at Martin Van Buren High School, where she plays a vital role in supporting high school students connect with their communities.

Samentha facilitates the development of resources such as food pantries, employment opportunities, mental health resources and many more to help students with essential soft and hard skills necessary for their post-high school transition. In addition to her full-time role, Samentha works part-time as a psychotherapist, employing a psychodynamic approach to therapy. She aids her clients in understanding their behaviors, feelings, and emotions, guiding them towards creating new, purposeful narratives for their lives. Multilingual and culturally diverse, Samentha is also a world traveler in her free time. She is dedicated to bringing happiness and self-healing to her clients and her community.
