Facilitating Professional Development with Ladders for Leaders and Goldman Sachs
On August 23, Commonpoint Queens’ Youth Workforce department hosted the second annual Goldman Sachs volunteer event with our Ladders for Leaders interns.
Through the Community TeamWorks initiative, Goldman Sachs partners with various nonprofit community organizations to engage its employees in meaningful service at least one day a year. This year, fifteen Goldman Sachs employees spent the day at Commonpoint Queens Central Queens, where they assisted Ladders for Leaders interns in their professional development through mock interviews with four different employees, resume review, and networking. Volunteers then had the opportunity to tour our facility and food pantry.
Ladders for Leaders is a competitive summer internship program for New York City youth ages 16-22 with at least a 3.0 GPA and prior work or volunteer experience. Our participants interned in a wide range of companies, from Ernst & Young to the American Museum of Natural History. In addition to the internship, Ladders for Leaders provides workplace readiness, professional development, and networking opportunities for its participants. Commonpoint Queens is one of three Ladders for Leaders providers in New York.
We are grateful to the UJA-Federation of New York for generously funding this event and for the continued support of our programs. Ladders for Leaders is an initiative of the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) and supported by the NYC Center for Youth Employment and the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City.
