This is Willie’s Story

“Hi, I’m Willie.

I learned about responsibility through the work studies program and the value of money and finances through their life skills groups.

I gained the confidence to join a band with my classmates at school, where I play the guitar. I also learned about team sports, leading to my participation in the New York State Special Olympics State Games for soccer last year!

Commonpoint gave me the independence and confidence I needed which further helped me to realize my dreams of applying to college.

At Commonpoint, I felt like I belonged and that was huge for me. I hope to one day give back to my community and help others like Commonpoint helped me.”

Willie, 19, Participant of Commonpoint’s Special Services Program

A Mother’s Love

“Hi, my name is Raquel.

As a long-time attendee of Commonpoint Queens, they have become a big part of my son Willie’s life.

As a participant of their special services program since the age of five, Willie, now 19, has gained a sense of independence built upon the basis of belonging.

The support and services that have been provided to him by Commonpoint Queens have given him a community, best friends, and a sense of self – support, and love. For that, we are forever grateful.”

Raquel, Mother of Willie

A Director’s Mission

Watching Willie grow into the young man he has become and the success he has endeavored has been such an incredible experience that we feel so grateful to have witnessed.

Willie has impacted my life in ways that I will never be able to thank him enough for and express my gratitude and appreciation to him with words alone. We are thankful to have him in our program and be able to work with him on a daily basis.

Natalie Palermo, Program Director of Special Services for Individuals with Developmental Disabilities
