Welcome Home

We are Galina and Vadim, and this is our story.

We recently fled Ukraine and had nowhere to live and no furnishings. I was nine and a half months pregnant and not covered by insurance.

Commonpoint’s Resettlement & Integration assistance helped us move into an apartment and turn it into a home. I could not believe that people who had never met us were so willing to help.

In addition, the case manager helped me enroll in Medicaid just in time for me to give birth.

We are now achieving the American dream of a better life with unimaginable freedom.

Commonpoint’s Resettlement & Integration services help individuals and families successfully assimilate into their new community and reach self-sufficiency through initial resettlement, case management, English language classes, job placement, and vocational training in New York City, Westchester County, and Long Island.

Anna came to New York from Kharkiv, Ukraine, in May 2023 with her 9-year-old son.

Anna now successfully works as a care coordinator for a home care agency, and her son happily attends elementary school.

The first step in Anna’s new career was to learn English. Commonpoint’s Resettlement Volunteer Services Team matched Anna with Nan, her volunteer conversation partner.
