Vote for Commonpoint Queens Future Focus Workshop Series Through Youth Participatory Budgeting!
Update – the deadline has been extended until February 26! Vote here.
The Civic Engagement Commission (CEC) is running a participatory budgeting process designed by youth, for youth, in partnership with the Coro New York Leadership Center PB Youth Fellowship Program. The goal of the project is to engage and empower young people to decide how to spend $100,000 of expense funding on projects that meet their needs, address their interests, and strengthen youth engagement across the city.
Commonpoint Queens has been selected as one of fifty organizations proposing projects that is being considered to win a $20,000 grant! Our project, the Future Focus Youth Workshop Series, will provide students across the five boroughs an opportunity to prepare for real world skills through learning essential information such as college preparedness, work readiness skills, financial literacy and critical interpersonal skills. Workshop participants will receive a stipend at the end of the program, as well as showcase their work through the completion of a portfolio and presentation that can be carried forward as they begin their journey to college and career exploration success.
The Future Focus Workshop Series will reinforce the importance of self-advocacy and create a pathway that builds students’ capacity to navigate external influences while working towards their own vision. This series will empower students to become the leader in the decision-making process. You can learn more from our students in the video below.
All youth ages 9-24 residing in NYC can vote at www.participate.nyc.gov. The Commonpoint Queens project is listed as “Future Focus Youth Workshop Series.” Eligible voters can choose between two and five projects to vote for – voting closes February 21.
