Commonpoint Queens Announces New Board Members
Commonpoint Queens announces the appointment of two new members of its Board of Directors, as well as the full slate of officers and board members for 2020/2021.
Joining the Board of Trustees are Ina Plotsky Kupferberg and Stacy Hoffman. “Ina joined our Board in February 2020 and Stacy in July 2020. Both bring incredible commitment to community and energy to Commonpoint Queens. We are very fortunate to have them by our side as we continue to support our community during the pandemic and beyond.” Danielle Ellman, Chief Executive Officer.
An attorney with a specialization in Labor & Employment Law, Ina is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Baruch College, a CUNY four-year college, and is Of Counsel to the firm of Berke-Weiss Law, PLLC. She is a graduate of the Cornell School of Industrial & Labor Relations and Boston University School of Law.
Ina has spent the past 30 years immersed in not-for-profit leadership. A resident of Great Neck, NY, Ina has been an active Board member and leader of a range of Jewish and secular organizations in her community. Ina sat on the Board of Temple Beth-El of Great Neck for almost 10 years, where she led a major fundraising campaign and served as a Vice President for seven years. Ina has worked closely with the temple’s executive director, senior staff, and clergy on matters of fundraising, policy, employee relations, and best practices.
Ina is deeply involved in UJA-Federation of New York (UJA), where her initial involvement in Synergy/Long Island was followed by membership on the Synergy Leadership Cabinet in Manhattan. She currently sits on UJA’s Network Planning Committee, Long Island Advisory Committee, and Long Island Jewish Life Committee. She has attended numerous UJA lay leader training programs.
Ina is also an active member of the Board of Columbia-Barnard Hillel. She has been involved in parent leadership groups at Colgate University and Columbia College of Columbia University. Ina and her husband are the parents of three adult children, who all live and work in NYC.
Stacey is a retired general dentist who decided to become a full-time stay at home mother to her two children, Chloe and Rochelle, after practicing for 10 years. Her education includes a BA from the University of Pennsylvania. She graduated from Columbia Dental School in 1986 with a DDS degree. She then completed a one-year general dentistry residency at Jamaica Hospital in Queens, NY. Stacy then worked at Queens Children’s Psychiatric Hospital and Bronx Children’s Psychiatric Hospital as well as opening a small private practice in Great Neck.
Stacy is a dedicated philanthropist and leader, caring for our community, Israel, and others through her unwavering commitment to UJA-Federation of New York. She is the immediate past Chair of the Long Island Advisory Council, helping to facilitate regional planning and funding on Long Island through the Mobile Resources Planning Cabinet. Previously, she was the Chair of the Long Island Program Services Cabinet, Chair of Volunteer Engagement for overall Women’s Philanthropy, as well as Chair of Long Island Women’s Philanthropy. She is an active member of the Women’s Philanthropy Executive Committees both in New York and on Long Island, the Long Island Executive Committee, the Planning Cabinet, and UJA’s Board of Directors.
Stacy has served on the UJA Summerfest committee for many years and has previously chaired Long Island Women’s Philanthropy’s signature Spring Event. Stacy is a past recipient of UJA’s Boas Award on Long Island, and in 2019 she was honored with the Spirit of Peggy Award at UJA’s Women’s annual Lion of Judah event in Manhattan. Stacy and her husband, Steven, who have been married for 39 years, are also members of the King David Society.
Throughout the years, Stacy has participated in and chaired countless mitzvah projects, site visits, and hands-on opportunities with UJA. Since her 50th birthday when she spearheaded a Mitzvah and Milestones project, inviting friends to bring food to the Rina Shkolnik Kosher food pantry to create Hanukah baskets for families in need, she has continued the tradition by sponsoring a food drive each year around her birthday continually expanding the list of items and where she donated to, including Commonpoint as a recipient. Stacy and Steven are also long-time supporters of FIDF, Hadassah, the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research, and Northwell Health’s Katz Women’s Hospital and Transgender Center. For the past two years, Stacy and Steven have sponsored Northwell Health’s Long Island Transgender, Non-Conforming, Non-Binary (TGNCNB) Community Conference at Hofstra in the fall, as well as a continuing education conference for medical professionals which focused on a multidisciplinary approach to Transgender Care this past October 2019.
