Commonpoint Hosts Sixth Annual Commonpoint Closet
Commonpoint is hosting its sixth annual Commonpoint Closet this Saturday, July 25, from 12:00 to 4:00PM at the Jack and Shirley Silver Hub, 77-17 Queens Blvd, Elmhurst, NY 11373. The clothing pop-up offers a variety of items, from household items to basic and professional attire, and is meant to support any community members in need. The Commonpoint Closet is open to Commonpoint clients as well as the public, and community members are welcome to walk-in and shop from 3:00 to 4:00 PM.
The pop-up has generously served the city since 2021, distributing a total of nearly 25,000 household and clothing items. Last year, Commonpoint Closet reached a record-breaking high of assisting 4,500 shoppers.
“It’s more than a suit, it’s a life transformed. All items at our Commonpoint Closet are free, thanks to the generosity of our neighbors. We provide a dignified shopping experience for clients and community members to get professional clothing, guidance from our employment team members, and the encouragement they need to not only secure a job interview but embark on a career that pays a living wage,” says Danielle Ellman, CEO of Commonpoint.
This year’s annual closet happens to be the largest amount of items to date, preparing to lend a helping hand to fellow New Yorkers. For those who want to be a part of the cause, volunteers are highly needed all throughout the day, either in the morning or while guests are shopping. Volunteers can sort out clothing or help shoppers choose items in order to curate a dignified shopping experience. Those looking to volunteer can sign up here.
