Commonpoint Celebrates Volunteers During Annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon

Commonpoint hosted its annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon this May.
In honor of Commonpoint’s nearly 800 volunteers, all were celebrated for their dedication, empathy, and selfless acts serving throughout the five boroughs. Volunteers enjoyed good food (made by Commonpoint’s Culinary Arts vocational training students), music, and most of all, good people.
This past year, Commonpoint volunteers completed over 20,000 hours of service across nearly 70 volunteer opportunities, ranging from ensuring families have food, older adults enjoy a hot, nutritious lunch, tutoring and mentoring young people, becoming companions to isolated seniors, distributing clothing to community members in need, and more.
Volunteers received awards of recognition for their outstanding service from Commonpoint, Certifications of Merit from Assemblywoman Nily Rozic, and Assemblyman Edward Braunstein. Representatives from the district of the aforementioned elected officials attended to issue the awards.
According to Kathy Martinovich, Volunteer Services Coordinator at Commonpoint, “Volunteers are more than just helpers; they are the heartbeat of our organization. Their selfless contributions, diverse perspectives, and unwavering support drive our mission forward. We ensure our team’s continued vitality and success by nurturing and valuing our volunteers. Together, we create a lasting impact, improving our community. Volunteers are the heart of our team, and they truly understand what it means to do something good for their neighbors!”
Invisible Hands by Commonpoint (Commonpoint Volunteer Services) offers volunteer opportunities that aid the agency’s mission and values. Commonpoint volunteers are the invisible hands making visible impacts in their community from supporting youth in after-school programs, packing and distributing food to the food insecure at eight food pantries, to helping give young adults an edge in the workforce through resume and interview prep, providing basic essential resources to help refugee families resettle in New York City, to helping older adults age in place with dignity through accompaniment, friendly visiting, lunch, and tech services.
