Bronx Community College and Commonpoint Sign Strategic Partnership Advancing Workforce and Education Opportunities in the Bronx
Bronx, NY — Bronx Community College, part of The City University of New York, and human services non-profit Commonpoint announced a new strategic partnership aimed at advancing economic mobility for Bronx residents through expanded access to education, workforce training, and career pathways. The announcement was made as leadership from both institutions were joined by local elected officials to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on Thursday, April 23rd at the Commonpoint Bronx Center.
The collaboration will officially launch on July 1, 2026, and reflects a shared commitment to supporting youth, young adults, and adult learners—particularly those from historically underserved communities—through an integrated model of college readiness, workforce development, and comprehensive support services. The initial agreement spans three years, with opportunities for expansion based on program outcomes and impact.
“BCC’s collaboration with Commonpoint reflects our intentional strategy to deepen community engagement by partnering with organizations whose missions align with our commitment to access, equity, and opportunity. Through this collaboration, we are expanding education and career pathways for residents in the Bronx throughout the New York City metropolitan statistical area, integrating college readiness, workforce training, and holistic supports. Together, we are breaking down barriers and building sustainable pipelines to careers and economic mobility across our community,” said Dr. Larry D. Johnson, Jr., President of Bronx Community College.
“This collaboration with Bronx Community College represents an important step in aligning community-based services with higher education to better serve Bronx residents. By integrating workforce development, college readiness, and supportive services, we are creating a more seamless system that meets people where they are and supports their growth at every stage. Our shared commitment is to ensure that opportunity is not just available, but truly accessible, leading to sustainable careers and stronger communities.” said Danielle Ellman, CEO of Commonpoint.
“This partnership is about making sure people in The Bronx actually have access to real opportunities, not just talk, but pathways that lead somewhere. When institutions like Bronx Community College and Commonpoint come together, it creates space for our community to grow, build, and move forward. Our constituents deserve opportunities that are accessible, practical, and built with them in mind and this partnership is a step in the right direction.” said Assembly Member Chantel Jackson.
“Economic mobility is the driving force behind this initiative and is the key to building stronger communities in The Bronx. This partnership between Bronx Community College and Commonpoint will create a clear pathway from the classroom and credential to a first job and a lasting career. This is how we invest in our neighbors and make sure every Bronxite has an opportunity at each step.” said Council Member Justin Sanchez

This Memorandum of Understanding reflects a shared vision aimed at expanding access to education, strengthening the workforce, and establishing sustainable pathways toward academic and professional success.” said Senator Luis R. Sepúlveda.
